Course Description:

In this engaging six-week course, students will explore the fascinating field of Cryptozoology, the study of hidden or unknown animals. They will delve into the scientific principles, examine various cryptids, investigate research methodologies, and analyze the evidence supporting the existence of these creatures. This course aims to equip students with critical thinking skills and a scientific approach to evaluating cryptozoological claims, preparing them for meaningful contributions to this intriguing area of study.

 

Course Outline

 

Week 1: Cryptozoology

  • Definitions of: Cryptozoology, Biology and Zoology and the differences between them.
  • A broad survey of cryptids, both famous and lesser-known ones.
  • Paranormal aspects.
  • Pseudoscience or developing science?

Week 2: Bigfoot

  • Quick coverage of the Bigfoot Phenomenon in the 2020s
  • Historical Antecedents
  • Correlation with Indigenous Peoples
  • 1958, 1967, the crazy 1970s, and the 2000s crash in respectability
  • Connections to other Big Hairy Monsters (BHM) across the world?
  • Nova Scotia and Canadian connections

Week 3: Water Cryptids
